Mars Aspen
Mars Aspen’s new single Pest Control explores the complexities of queer relationships and the painstaking process of digging into the reasons why some of them simply (or catastrophically) end. Is it me? Is it them? Who’s to blame when things go south? Pest Control combines feelings of love lost and the insecurities that follow. Drawing inspiration from artists such as Lizzy McAlpine, Daffo, and dodie, Mars Aspen’s unique vocals and calming instrumentation lures the listener in and traps them in their web.
Mars Aspen (they/them) is an emerging singer-songwriter from Ottawa, Ontario. Their songs explore themes of vulnerability, love, heartbreak, and everything in between. They weave aspects of personal identity and experience into saccharine-sweet indie folk that invites any and all listeners to find a new home within their sound. Since releasing their EP Orbit in 2022, they’ve performed alongside Leith Ross, Rae Spoon, and Canadian cellist Raphael Weinroth-Browne. Mars made their broadcast debut on CTV Ottawa’s Music Mondays performing Over Grown in September 2024. You can watch their performance here. Stay tuned for Mars' upcoming EP coming out in early 2025.
