(April 24, 2025) - Today, BIPOC/Trans-fronted Toronto post-punk powerhouse Chinese Medicine share new single, “Total Happiness” featuring Shiv Scott from Shiv and the Carvers. “Total Happiness” is a visceral experience - akin to the feeling of taking psychedelics while battling a migraine. Frontwoman Juno Hailey and Shiv clash vocally, creating raw tension, like voices battling to be heard in an argument. It’s an anti-capitalist, anti-corporation anthem that challenges the relentless pursuit of profit over genuine fulfillment.

“The energy of ‘Total Happiness’ is best described as dancing with your besties while the club burns down around you. It’s one of my favourite songs to perform live,” shares frontwoman Juno Hailey. “Playing this with Shiv takes it to a whole new level. Getting to feed off her raw power and commanding stage presence is intoxicating and shakes up our usual dynamic as a band. I like to think the crowd feels it too. It’s not just a performance, it’s a riot disguised as a party.”

“Total Happiness” will feature on the band’s upcoming EP, The Trans Agenda, arriving May 16 via Twin Fang Records. Blending punk, 80s new wave, and a heavy pour of queercore, Chinese Medicine’s upcoming EP doubles down on their uncompromising ethos, thrashing through themes of otherness, systemic corruption, and trans identity with razor-sharp precision.

“It felt like the perfect time to announce this album,” shared Juno. “Beyond the obvious connection to its name and content, this is also a moment for me to share my journey in my own voice, making myself visible, so to speak. I’ve always been scared of being a visibly trans woman in public, and this album represents me reaching the top of that hill and standing tall, proud to be seen.”

The EP was announced on March 31 in celebration of International Transgender Day of Visibility, an annual event dedicated to celebrating transgender people and raising awareness of discrimination faced by transgender people worldwide, as well as a celebration of their contributions to society.

The Trans Agenda will also feature their previously shared, scorching pop-punk banger, “Acetone”. Exploring the strange and visceral ways we process trauma, “Acetone” draws deep from personal stories, blending vocals from front-woman Juno Hailey and guitarist Andrew Pearson in a way that sounds like a conversation between friends.
